Our Approach
The project is dedicated to enhancing the implementation of the
National Adaptation Plan 2023 in Pakistan, with a specific focus
on strengthening the adaptation planning and integrating climate resilience criteria into sectoral project planning at the national and provincial levels specifically in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
(KP) and Punjab. Given the proliferation of policy and strategy
documents addressing the negative impacts of climate change in
Pakistan in recent years, the project supports the operationalisation of adaptation measures identified by the state and civil society. This approach ensures that the adaptation strategies sought
are effectively implemented to address the pressing challenges
posed by climate change, and that they integrate gender and environmental climate adaptation measures into national and provincial development plans and sector projects
Expected Achievements
Approval of Climate-Resilient Project Proposals
Efforts are underway to secure approval for project proposals aligning with climate resilience regulations set by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination (MoCC). The National Planning Commission (PC) is spearheading this work, aiming to ensure that proposed projects meet the necessary criteria to withstand the challenges posed by climate change. This marks a departure from the current trend of approving projects that lack specific climate resilience considerations. These approved proposals are expected to demonstrate a proactive approach towards addressing climate change challenges and ensuring the long-term viability of development initiatives
Integration of Gender and Environmental Climate Adaptation Measures
Efforts are dedicated to integrating gender and environmental climate adaptation measures into provincial development plans and sector project applications across KP and Punjab. Historically, these measures have been overlooked, resulting in significant gaps in addressing gender disparities and ensuring environmental sustainability within development initiatives. By actively incorporating gender dynamics and environmental considerations into project planning and execution, this integration represents a step towards enhancing the inclusivity and effectiveness of development efforts. It aims to build resilience and promote equitable outcomes within climate adaptation strategies, under scoring the importance of considering diverse perspectives and sustainability principles in decision-making processes
Implementation of Climate-Resilient and Gender-Equitable Projects
Private companies, public actors, and non-governmental organisations will be actively engaged in implementing climate-resilient and gender-equitable projects in vulnerable areas of KP and
Punjab provinces. Previously, projects lacked a focus on climate
resilience and gender equity, highlighting the need for targeted
interventions in vulnerable regions. The objective is to showcase
the feasibility and effectiveness of integrating climate resilience
and gender considerations into project design and execution.
